Athena was born and raised in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, and from an early age, enjoyed creative writing and performing. She attended North Carolina School of the Arts High School Drama Intensive. Athena went on to continue her theatrical studies at Western Michigan University. There, Athena studied classical music under the great Grace Mannion. She continued her theatrical studies at Columbia University. During this time, she also certified in Personal Training and Yoga. While suppressing her sexuality, Athena drowned herself in work, producing and performing in 6 one-night-only benefit productions for Charity: Water in NYC.
Post coming out as gay, Athena placed her theatrical pursuits on hold to deal with the grief and trauma of losing her entire immediate family due to their homophobia. Again, Athena immersed herself in work to escape the pain. She established an in-home fitness company, YouniquelyFit.
Using her dance background, personal training, Pilates, and yoga, Athena created a postural approach to fitness. In addition to growing her fitness business, she also produced and performed in 5 one-night-only benefit productions for The Ali Forney Center, a non-profit in NYC that provides housing and resources for homeless LGBTQIA+ youth.
Athena met her wife, Debbie Casey, on Tinder in NYC and a year later they were married. She relocated to the San Francisco Bay Area where she opened another branch of YouniquelyFit, and formed a business partnership with her wife.
