The Student Success Team is such an integral part of an online student’s personal journey. I am proud to lead a team here at 91ֱthat is filled with Advisors who are passionate about seeing students succeed and reach their personal goals. Marina Borrero, this year’s recipient of the “Student Success Standing Ovation Award” took some time this week to share some insight into her role and what excites her the most about working at Keypath.

Marina's Personal Quote: "Develop a passion for learning. If you do, you will never cease to grow." - Anthony J. D'Angelo

Explain in two or three sentences what your role at 91ֱentails:

My role as a Student Support Advisor is to support students in their program through graduation. I provide resources and guidance to each individual students' educational journey. I would say the most rewarding part of being a Student Success Advisor (SSA) is motivating students to ensure they reach their full potential.

What excited you about working for Keypath?

The growth of this company! It is validating to look back at how 91ֱwas when I started and where it is now. Not only has my team doubled in size, but the impact SSA's are making is continuously growing as well.

Where do you see your specialty going in the next five years?

With the rapid technological advancements, I can see student success being able to make the student experience more personalized. There is a ton of research on face-to-face interaction that affirms the impact it has on people, even virtually (shout out to my team who put together business plans on this). This will leverage us as a more progressive student success group and create a unique student experience.

How can you use your skills to change the student experience for the better?

It tends to be easy for students to get caught up in their own mind dictated by self-doubt. I'm here to remind them that they are capable, that they will be successful, and that they are on the right path to achieve their goals. I believe this is attainable by being empathetic and empowering. I want each student to feel in control of their education and confidence in the career path they are taking despite the challenges. At the end of the day, we all need someone to remind us of how well we are doing and to validate our achievements.

What is your favorite personal achievement?

I'm not one to brag about myself, and actually get quite red if anyone brings it up to me, but I am humbly proud to say I was nominated to be the first annual winner of the "Standing Ovation Award." It is the top honor for exemplifying outstanding dedication to the student experience, student success, and peer collaboration. I couldn't be more grateful to work with such amazing people on my team and other departments.

Is there a hobby you can't live without?

I would say I have three main hobbies: volleyball, eating and reality TV. You can always find me at the nearest volleyball court with my friends, having a good laugh and some friendly competition. I'm also infatuated with the number of food options there are in this world and am always up for trying something at least once. After a good game and stuffing my face, I'll catch up on my favorite reality TV show - I'm a complete junky. It's all about balance, right?
